Teaching Surf Lessons: the Dream Job

There is an old saying, “you can only become truly accomplished at something you love.” As a surf instructor for Pacific Surf School, I have the great fortune of experiencing this firsthand through my role. Working in the water, spending all day at the beach, and teaching people to get to their feet on waves is as exciting as it sounds.

Taking a more in-depth look at what makes teaching individuals surf so fulfilling, the connections made with people taking surf lessons have been overwhelmingly meaningful. I so enjoy the unique stories that accompany each lesson. It is an incredible feeling when your student(s) wish to make you a part of their growth in surfing by staying in touch with their progress.

Some say the Ocean cleanses and heals. I feel assured after spending countless hours battling currents, and catching waves that it is true. The affinity I now have for the ocean and nature, in general, has grown tremendously with my time spent surfing and instructing.

Surfing with my fellow instructors has offered a tremendous amount of growth to my surfing. Seeing such unique styles both in their surfing abilities and coaching methods is like a never-ending wealth of knowledge. Being surrounded by great people who love what they do, happiness becomes contagious during every workday.
