As it is bathed by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Costa Rica carries good waves at any time of the year. Between November and March, the Caribbean side and northern Costa Rica (Tamarindo and northern region) get the best swells. While in the months between April and November the Pacific coast, which runs from Pavones to Playa Negra (South of Tamarindo) have more size due to the traditional swells of the south that reach the Pacific.

Playa Tamarindo is located on the north Pacific coast, in the province of Guanacaste. This beach is one of the most beautiful and famous tourist destinations in Costa Rica, with a wide range of hotels, bars, clubs, and restaurants. All this and many other things make it a place full of flavor, color, natural beauty, and intense nightlife.

The beach has calm waters, which is perfect for surf lessons and those just starting. So, if you want to try surfing in Costa Rica, Playa Tamarindo is the place to do it. It is the most famous destination in Costa Rica, it also has the best conditions to learn how to surf year-round.

For those who experienced surfers that are in Tamarindo and looking for more tranquility, several beaches are just a few minutes by car. For example, Playa Negra, which is about 30 minutes to the south, is one of the most perfect rights in the country and breaks over a coral bench.
