Pacific Surf is one of the leading surf schools around the world with our headquarters based in San Diego, California. We teach surfing lessons in many different surf locations and our top priority is providing the best surfing experience.
We have instructors from all over the world that are surf experts. They are all trained with Water Safety Courses, with over a thousand 5 stars reviews and coached to teach to all ages. We specialize in beginners and intermediate surf lessons.
In some of our locations we have partnerships with local surf schools. All surf schools that we partner with are registered and licensed surf schools that provide the same quality service as we do. They follow all the guidelines to properly perform surf lessons.
The easiest way is booking lessons online through our website, here you will be able to choose the date, time and location that works best for you. You can also call us at +1 (858) 488-2685 and we will be able to book your lesson over the phone.
This beach is famous for having great waves for beginner surfers throughout the year. Santa Monica Beach is a “must visit” when going to Los Angeles.
All of our surf lessons are one and a half hours. All the equipment is included: surfboard, wetsuit, leash and rash guard.
The lesson starts with a land lesson, you will learn about safety, board information like dynamics and dimensions, what to do and not to do, and pop up technique to stand on the board.
Right after you will enter the water with your surfing instructor to try the real thing, he/she will help place the board in the correct position and give you pointers so you can catch your first waves!
Private Surf Lessons, Semi-private Surf Lessons and Group Surf Lessons.
A private surf lesson is a one-on-one lesson, which means an instructor just for you and more wave time. If your goal is to really learn surfing and make it a habit, this is the best option.
A semi-private surf lesson means an instructor for a small group of two to three people. This is a great option if you want to learn how to stand up and have some fun with peers!
A group surf lesson is an instructor for four to five people. You will have less wave time, although, having lessons with more people can make the experience more fun!
Some of our partners might not have the semi-private options in their locations.
When you arrive for your surf lesson we will provide you with a wetsuit, so we recommend wearing a swimsuit or board shorts to wear the wetsuit over it.
You should bring a towel and sunscreen to the lesson. Also, we recommend tipping your instructor after the lesson if you had a good time, therefore, make sure you bring some cash for it.
Pacific Surf School Inc facilitates the booking of your surf lessons and camp in this location, but a partner surf school might be teaching the lesson. Read the full disclaimer here.
I'm a 41 year old male, never surfed before, and my wife set me up with a private lesson as an anniversary present. We surfed at Mission Beach starting... read more at 10:30am in September. Great weather, great beach, consistent medium waves. My instructor was patient, friendly, chatty, and helpful. 90 minutes was plenty of time to get comfortable and stand up a few times, and then be ready for a rest since wading out over and over takes a toll.
The team was professional and friendly, and the merch is great. While I didn't pay for the photographer add-on, he still took pics of me, which I later was able to buy.
Other things to know: There is no restroom at the office so go at home, the beach ones are very used. They supply the wetsuit so you just need underwear, but you change in public on the beach so be prepared.

Pacific Surf School is top notch! My wife and I took a lesson with David and he was an exceptional instructor. He was extremely professional, patience and very knowledgeable! Most... read more importantly he was fun, and made the experience fun, which is what surfing is all about! He took the the time to explain and demonstrate different pop-up methods. Also showed us how to properly shift weight and keep your center of balance. And as promised, he had us up and riding waves in no time! I have experience in surfing but its been many years since I've been on a board. I've always found it difficult to be in the correct position when catching waves on longer surfboards (very different catching small waves on a heavy long board compared to a small body board using flippers). David immediately saw that I was positioning myself incorrectly and as soon as he adjusted me I was catching waves much easier. He also was making suggestions on paddling techniques and shifting the body as you are positioning to catching a wave. Little tips and suggestions like that make the experience so much better, and this is now something I can work off on my own to improve my skills. I was also drilling David with all types of questions after our session (positioning on the board, pop up techniques, board types & sizes, wet suit questions) and he answered all of them in detail and without hesitation. Overall an incredible experience with David & crew and I would recommend them to anyone! If you are in San Diego, take a surf lesson! And be sure to take it with Pacific Surf School!!

Erik was fantastic at teaching myself and my children (12 & 14). My son was quick to learn and was standing up on his second wave, whereas my daughter and... read more I needed much more help and patience which Erik provided in abundance.
